CSCTA Announces Canadian Mentorship Program Participants

The CSCTA is very pleased to announce the successful applicants for the first year of our Canadian Mentorship Program.  This program is designed to provide coaches with the opportunity to observe and learn from some of the best coaches in the country.

The five mentor coaches this year include a wide range of experience and cover programs from small to large clubs, national training centres and PARA.  Coaches applied to visit a specific Mentor and were asked to provide information on their coaching background, current status and goals.  

2016-2017 CSCTA Mentorship Program - Mentors:

  • Emil Dimitrov - Liquid Lightning 
  • Mike Thompson - HPC Montreal
The CSCTA received an overwhelming response to this program as 88 applications were received f or 5 positions (1 per mentor).  Due to this outstanding interest in the program, and with approval of the Mentor coaches, the CSCTA Board of Directors doubled the budget for this activity this year increasing the number of available positions to 10 (2 per Mentor).  Each of the 10 selected coaches will receive up to $ 2 000.00 from the CSCTA towards their Mentor visitation which should be completed by December 31, 2017.   

The CSCTA formed a committee to review all 88 applications and have carefully selected the successful candidates.  In order to remove any perceived bias, the committee did not have access to the names or other identifying information for each applicant. 

The CSCTA congratulates each of the successful candidates and would like to thank each of the five mentors for helping to make this program successful.

The CSCTA plans to expand this program in the 2017-2018 season and have begun to identify mentor coaches in the field.
