His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will preside over an Order of Canada investiture ceremony at Rideau Hall, on Friday, September 16, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. The Governor General, who is chancellor and Principal Companion of the Order, will bestow the honour on 32 Members and 13 Officers.
The Order of Canada was created in 1967, during Canada’s centennial year, to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. Since its creation, more than 5 000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order.

For more than 35 years, Ollie Currie has supported competitive swimming in Canada. A dedicated volunteer, she has given countless hours to serve as manager of Canadian swim teams competing at the World Aquatic Games, the Pan-Am Games, the Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games. She has also managed Canadian Paralympic swimmers, supporting the team at three Paralympic Games. Highly regarded as a mentor to athletes, coaches and administrators, she has also served on the boards of various sports organizations, and was appointed chef de mission to the 1994 World Aquatic Championships.
