MONTREAL – Swimming Canada is please to announce that Pierre Lamy has started his new role as Assistant Coach for the National Training Centre located at the Olympic Park Pool in Montreal.

Lamy, who originates from Roberval, joined Head Coach Benoit Lebrun in offering services to a variety of High Performance athletes. Alongside Lebrun, Lamy is tasked with coordinating a multidisciplinary team of sport science and sport medicine practitioners offering athletes the tools and the services necessary to become the best in the world.

“Pierre brings a wealth of International and Provincial experience to the organization,” said CEO and National Coach, Pierre Lafontaine. “He has demonstrated great coaching qualities and motivational skills that will uphold the great work we have been doing with our Montreal center-based athletes.”

With over forty years of experience in swimming as athlete and coach, Lamy has contributed to the rise and successes of several top Canadian swimmers. Most recently, he coached multiple gold medalist and World Record holder Valérie Grand’Maison to stunning performances at the Beijing Paralympic Games.

As an assistant coach to Claude St-Jean at the CAMO club, Lamy also contributed to the development of Audrey Lacroix, who recently set a World Short Course Record this past summer as part of the Women’s 4x100 medley relay.

Aside from his “on deck” coaching responsibilities with the Montreal centre athletes, Lamy will assist the National Centre Head Coach in providing outreach coaching services to selected High Performance Swimmers in clubs throughout Quebec. In addition, he will coordinate non-resident athletes and coaches’ visitations to the Centre and work in close cooperation with the Head Coaches of the partnered university teams (McGill and Université de Montreal).

Quebec Provincial Junior Coach role

As a partnerships role with the Fédération de Natation du Québec (FNQ), Lamy also acts as Provincial Junior Coach for Quebec. Throughout the year, he will be working closely with coaches within the province of Quebec in identifying and developing the next wave of elite swimmers.

“With his multiple engagements on provincial and national teams, Pierre has developed a vision on developing athletes right to the international level,” said Alain Lefebvre, Technical Director for FNQ. “He also possesses the necessary aptitudes to integrate himself to the team of experts that have been developed by Benoit Lebrun at the National centre and contribute to the success of its athlete as well as preparing the next generation of champions.”
Lamy will be part of the IPC World Championships team competing in Rio next November.
